Who am I? My connection to food!
Hi Folks and Welcome! I am Priyanka. I live in Maryland, US with my husband who I met 9 years ago and our 2 year old son. I come from the western Indian state of Gujarat where every city is well known for its food. I have fond memories of relishing the sweets, savories and the comfort food that my mother made. As a child, I was always curious about flavors and what went into making those recipes so magical. Cooking was never on my to do list but when I first stepped into college, cooking was no more an option, but a necessity. Cafeteria food sucked, so whenever I found time on my hands, I would cook for myself and my friends. It was amazing how cooking even simple meals gave me so much joy. When I got married and moved to US, I graduated into cooking more lavish meals and larger courses and my love for cooking just blossomed. Since then I have always been experimenting new recipes for my friends and family.
My Inspiration? My Mom, My Husband!
My cooking training was through simply observing my mother. She is organized, quick and has an amazing presence of mind. Her most important ingredient was a lot of joy and love. I try to follow that in my way of cooking.
My husband is the inspiration behind this blog. He always encouraged me to share my cooking skills and passion with the world. I am blessed to have a companion who is every bit a foodie like me. A great food connoisseur, the subtlest of inconsistency or missing proportions of ingredients won’t escape his heightened sense of taste. His comments and criticism take me to perfection on every dish that I make in my kitchen.
The Recipes? My kitchen, My take!
Ohitsdelicious.com is a food diary where I share my love and passion for food and cooking. These are recipes I have perfected in my own kitchen. It takes practice to reach to a point where the dish you cook is to the perfection of your tastes buds. The best way to get to your perfect taste is to iterate over the recipes and fine tune the proportions to your preferences.
Some ingredients of some recipes are core to the recipe and I am very particular about them. They should not be compromised. Some on the other hand are optional and interchangeable with what you may have readily available in your kitchen. I have made an attempt to call this out in my blogs when applicable.
I do believe in quick and easy recipes which makes my life easy. But somedays I don’t mind being in the kitchen and cooking elaborate meals for my family. I am always looking for easy ways to cook things, without compromising the taste. Some recipes do need a lot of TLC.
Food Photography
Food blog and Food photography go hand in hand. I am not a professional food photographer but I won’t deny that I am in love with food photography and how fun it is to cook delicious food and capture that deliciousness in a picture. I am learning the techniques and understanding my camera better. It’s my constant effort to make the food look as yummy as it is and inspire you to try to cook it yourself. All pictures on this food blog are captured and edited by me.
